EDUNEST

The all-in-one platform for virtual learning.

MOBILE APPLICATION DESIGN

THE PROBLEM

We began working on this project at the beginning of the pandemic, and thus, online learning was relatively new, and for many students would come with a significant amount of change and adjustment. In addition, the online learning platform LEARN, that our university used presented multiple issues when accessed from mobile devices. With those factors in mind, we reviewed the survey results and identified the following issues:

  • Schedule & Organization: Many students expressed that managing their time was sometimes difficult; they stated that they felt stressed, confused, and lost tying to balance and organize their asynchronous classes and tasks with minimal guidance from professors and lack of in-person support.

  • Communication & Interaction: Students expressed feelings of confusion in regards to communication with professors and TAs. Many felt that it was difficult to reach out to and receive responses from their professors and TAs in a timely manner. Others conveyed that miscommunication occurred too often for their liking.

Almost all students indicated that it was more difficult interacting with their classmates, peers, teachers, and TAs online, with many feeling that there was some sort of disconnect and awkwardness. Students revealed that they missed the ability to talk to people face-to-face and have that social environment.

RESEARCH

Myself and Thomass Muir set out to do some reseach. We compiled a list consisting of the following questions:

  • Compared to in-person classes, how is the workload?

  • How do you find interaction with your teachers, TAs, and fellow classmates?

  • How easy is it to navigate your primary online learning platform?

We shared our survey across a variety of social media and messaging platforms, including Discord and Instagram, then collected and analyzed the responses after a few days.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

What Students Had to Say:

  • "It has been difficult adjusting to the workload of remote learning and managing the many deadlines."

  • "I feel that my teachers don't actually know me and for most, it's difficult to fint times to actually ask questions and talk."

  • "The organization of my online learning platform and all the third-party sites we need to keep track of makes things difficult."

THE SOLUTION

EduNest focuses on organization and connection, through its calendar and direct messaging functions, which target challanges that are prominant during pandemic times.

The interface and overall design allows for stimulation and visual interest, while remaining organized and intuitive.
